The students of our school are self-motivated, appreciative, and diligent people. We are a project-based public charter school on an island and we struggle with our budget from year to year. Our students have made do with little resources in terms of classroom space and are in desperate need of furniture and lighting to make our brand new studio a fully functioning one where they can produce even more amazing work. I have nothing but respect for what they have created under the circumstances of working on the floor, or what ever space they could find. Storage of their work has been a shuffling game and often at the expense of their artwork. Our students would be incredibly appreciative to have furniture in our studio to build an art department together. My Project: This year is the first year in the history of the school's existence we have had an actual art studio classroom. For years and years before that, materials were pushed around on a cart from classroom to classroom, often with no sink! Now that we have a 7-12 art studio, we need furniture to outfit it. Unfortunately, all of proceeds from the fund raising we did went into the addition. Students have been working on the floor, storing work piled on top of each other in the one flat file we own, and still smiling. Imagine if they had proper art studio furniture to accommodate their successful art making. This project will allow students to see what they are working on, the lighting in our new art classroom is poor and we have no means to light a still life, or make for better presentation of work during assessments. Also, storage of work is a huge problem, students' work is damaged as it is piled in a very small drawer not equipped for the student body that comes through our small art studio everyday. Thank you so much for your consideration of our request and the time you spent reading this. hide» My students need furniture and lighting for a brand new 7-12 art studio. details»
