My Students

Most of us don't know what it's like to read at a 3rd grade level in 11th grade. We can't even begin to imagine how frustrating it is to take final exams with the No Child Left Behind curriculum. Help struggling students be able to show what they've learned in a way that they can truly show it.

My students are 11th grade special education students.

They are mainstreamed into the rigorous curriculum of Conceptual Physics, Algebra 2, and Economics and have to take finals in all of these classes. Reading and writing is a struggle, but they are still expected to do it. As their English teacher, I would like to give them a different opportunity for my class. We read and discuss various selections of British Literature. I would like for them to act out scenes from our selections and put them all together in Windows movie maker. I would like to give them a break in my class from their struggles, allowing them to have fun with their final assessment. The project will assess all 2nd semester selections and each student's comprehension while touching on all technology GLCE's.

My Project

I am requesting 4 cameras that also allow for video. I have 12 students in my classroom, so they can be broken up into groups of 2. Students will show their comprehension of various British Literature selections and make a movie on movie maker. This will be their final exam and count for 20% of their final grade. This will be setting students up for success.

This project is so important because the definition of being fair isn't treating everyone equally; it's treating everyone how they need to be treated.

Student who struggle with reading and writing may not be assessed fairly if that's how they are being asked to show what they have learned. These students need differentiated assessments in order to show their maximum potential.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
