My Students

Our students live in a neighborhood that is in an area of about 16, yes, I said 16 city blocks. These students need to be able to see the rest of the world and this equipment would really make a huge difference. The students will be able to view and talk with students from around the world.

We are a public community school in Illinois consisting of predominantly African American students with a growing Hispanic base.

They are curious and they love to learn. Their enthusiasm, combined with the right equipment, the students will jump right on board. We offer many diverse exploratory programs, such as Art, Dance, Drum Line, Drama Technology, Athletics and Multimedia just to name a few. We have two buildings, one an elementary school and the other a middle school. Elementary school students learn basic academics and when they reach middle school, the students are ready to choose their exploratory classes. They really begin to mature as they begin to work in my technology and photography program. They also earn numerous community service hours related to technology as they complete the programs. Today, I had alumni students come back to assist me and other teachers with technology related projects as a part of their community service requirements.

My Project

These tools are the KEY to the world for our students, which will give them access to people around the world. They will be able to use software like Skype to communicate with other classes and venture further into the world with students from other cities, states, and even countries. Voice Thread provides an outstanding communication mode as well. Students have produced videos and had others comment on them. So far, we have used text comments and phone comments on their individual video projects. We are anxious to use the web cam and microphone comment options as well. We will also be able to incorporate TeacherTube into the classroom in a whole NEW way. We will then be able to record and post videos of experiments, technology lectures and numerous core curriculum projects.

With these dedicated lab tools, all teachers and students will join me as we move into the 21st century together.

I will help teachers incorporate technology as a vital component in their teaching repertoire. Harvey Brooks and Michael Maccoby (July, 1986) share my belief that "Technology is a Human Tool, Not a Replacement." Thank you in advance for your time and support.
