Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Classroom management is the first rule of teaching - especially teaching middle school students. Believe it or not, placing students at tables versus desk reduces the amount of distractions students create in the classroom by hiding inappropriate items inside of a desk. The focus = the lesson.

My students are your typical 12-13 year old attending a middle school in Southern California.

A large percentage of our students come from low income homes with one or both parents working multiple jobs. For many, support at home is minimal, if not absent. In addition, a significant portion of our students fall short of scoring proficient on the state test.

My Project

Math tends to be one of the more challenging subjects for students to master. Helping them make wise choices in the classroom and remain focused on the lesson is the ultimate goal. Using tables versus desk will alleviate their ability to hide food, gum, or cell phones inside of the desk for immediate access. Also, we tend to do a lot of grouping and using tables to form groups quickly gives more time back to the lesson.

Our school motto is "Be ready, responsible, and always be respectful!" Our goal is to train our students to be ready and responsible citizens of our community; ever respectful of the gift of education.

Our hope is they will impart their knowledge upon future generations and train them to do the same.
