This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Help us understand! With a class full of very intelligent students with autism it is a tragedy that they are unable to be involved in the general education classroom because of their inability to visually process information. With the help of a laptop that would all change!

A class full of high functioning students with autism is a daily adventure!

Spending time with kids that are funny, interesting and VERY literal is a daily eye opening experience. Most are high functioning autism and find themselves as outcast because they are stuck in a self contained classroom and not a part of the socializing that happens in the general education environment.

My Project

Because these students are placed in a self contained classroom, they are taught intensive skills that will help them function in their daily lives as a active part in the community. One way that we can begin this inclusion would be to place these students in a general education classroom but still provide the structure and support. Students with autism often have problems with fine motor skills (writing) visual processing (transfer from board to paper). We need two laptop computers to provide them the visual support they need to help get them out of the special ed class and into the general ed classroom! With the use of a laptop the influence of these deficits would be aided allowing the students the opportunity of a life to just feel included in a general education or what the students with autism deem as "a normal classroom."

There have not been many times over the years that I have been teaching to allow a special education student the opportunity to feel a part of the general education environment...these laptops would allow for them to take them into the classroom and feel as thought they belong!
