My Students

I have spent countless hours gathering, making and purchasing manipulatives and games for my kids- yet they can't find them ! Once I get them all sorted out, we are going to have to pack up and move rooms. My kids are not being able to access all items to help them learn.

I teach 20 enthusiastic first-grade readers in Utah.

With the lowest per student funding in the nation, and one of the highest classroom sizes, Utah schools struggle with funding, and my school is no exception. My classroom is in a moderate-need school with some ESL students.

My Project

My students are in an exciting and wonderful time in their learning development. They are just making connections between words and numbers on a paper to what they know those things to mean inside their brain. Manipulatives and other items help them to make these connections in an engaging and non stressful way. In order for me to better serve my students I need them to be able to more easily access the items we have in our class. Having access to these items give all my students better chances to learn, but helps my tactile learners especially, which are some of the often overlooked students. It also helps my lower students that need help with one to one correspondence in math.

This next year I will have to move classes every 6 weeks.

Having these supplies will help those transitions to go more smoothly. They will enable me to spend my time teaching instead of trying to pack up boxes.
