Extra Copies of Reader's Choice Nominee Books

My students need 5 copies each of 5 nominated books for the Reader's Choice Award.

My Students

Imagine how empowering it is for a student to be able to vote for their favorite nominated book. The Young Reader's Choice Award program makes this possible.

Our public school has approximately 300 students, over 45% of which qualify for free/reduced lunch.

Amazingly, the students at my school are avid readers. Being a small school with limited space and no library budget causes many difficulties. Often, 30-40 students will want to read the 1 copy we have available. Having multiple copies is a luxury we cannot afford.

My Project

I'd like to purchase 5 additional copies of the books nominated for the 2010-2011 school year. By helping to purchase these books for our library, you ensure that every student will be able to read the nominated books so they can vote. The nominated books for this coming year are: Amulet: The Stonekeeper by Kazu Kibuishi Dog Lost by Ingrid Lee Ignatius MacFarland: Frequenaut! by Paul Feig Savvy by Ingrid Law The Seer of Shadows by Avi Students need to read at least 3 of these books in order to vote.

Students are rarely given the opportunity to express themselves in such an empowering way.

Adults do not get to vote so that makes it extra special. Because they must read at least 3 of the books in order to vote, it introduces them to various kinds of literature that they normally wouldn't select. They also get to participate in book discussions after the votes have been submitted to help them learn to analyze what they read.
