My Students

Do you remember sharpening your pencils with the old manual sharpeners fastened to the walls? Well, my class is still using the same old, non-functioning sharpeners that have been there forever! It seems we waste valuable teaching time waiting for my students to ineffectively sharpen their pencils.

I teach sixth grade math, science and reading in a middle school in New York.

My class is filled to the rim with thirty two students, many which are high risk. My students are eager to learn and have the ability to be successful if given the tools they need to reach their full potential.

My Project

I have a sixth grade class of 32 students. With only four minutes between classes, they need to use this time to change books at their lockers, use the restroom, get to their next class and make sure they are prepared with the proper supplies. Once the bell rings, there are only 42 minutes to execute the day's lesson. It may seem like a trivial issue, but pencil sharpening is a problem. The manual sharpener we have in our classroom eats the pencils until they are miniature and never sharpens fully. It is a time consuming duty that wastes precious class time. It is an ongoing struggle to have these students come to class fully prepared with all of the supplies they need. The extra step of having electric sharpeners will allow us to focus more on education and spend less time on housekeeping tasks.

Please help my students sharpen their skills by supplying us with three electric pencil sharpeners.

The amount of time saved by using an electric pencil sharpener versus a manual one will help to enrich my students' learning.
