My Students

I would like to bring forensic science to life in my classroom.

I teach Integrated Science to a group of enthusiastic, inquisitive 7th graders at a district-run, science-focused charter school in Utah.

Our school serves a diverse group of students in grades six through nine, forty-four percent of whom are economically disadvantaged.

My Project

The recent flurry of crime scene investigative TV shows has not escaped the attention of my 7th graders. Many of them aspire to becoming a forensic scientist when they grow up. I see an opportunity to capitalize on their enthusiasm for this topic, to teach science process skills. I am asking for a variety of forensic science tools and kits to teach some of the techniques used in the science of forensics. In doing so students will learn to make observations and inferences.

I believe that you can get kids to learn anything if they are excited and engaged in the learning process.

I believe that having access to these forensic science resources will ignite and inspire my students. Who knows, maybe some of them will be scientists one day?
