Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember the first time you learned about your body and all the wonderful things it does for your on a daily basis? My students are learning about theirs right now and focusing on learning how to keep their bodies clean.

I work with a group of very energetic, eager to learn 5th grade students in a high poverty area in Illinois.

These students are soaking up information like little sponges and it is great to see the thrill in their eyes when they finally learn something new.

My Project

Students and I have been working from a book, entitled No B.O.! This book puts a fun spin on hygiene education by making students able to easily relate to the text, as well as give fun facts about hygiene in the past, present and future. Students enjoy hearing excerpts from the text during our health education segment of the day. However, only having one book to teach from is making getting my points across difficult. So, I thought, "Why not get books for my entire classroom?" This way, students will be able to follow along with the text and better appreciate the core topics that I am teaching, as well as enjoy the fun facts and bit of humor that is throughout the book.

Students need to learn about their bodies...it is essential.

By helping us to get a class set of this wonderful book, you will help my students to be clean and active members of their society. Thank you!
