Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In order to become successful readers, children must have access to quality literature at their individual reading levels. This is extra hard at the kindergarten level. There just isn't a lot of low level books for my kids. And what little there is - is extremely expensive.

My kids are some of the neediest in the metro area.

Often our students do not have any books at all at home. Many times they live in homes where they do not see anyone reading or writing. So we are responsible for providing them with the literacy experiences they require to become good readers. We need help desperately. Our kids need to feel like they are good enough and are worth having special things like new books. They deserve to be able to find books they can read. Our school library just doesn't have readers that are low enough for where my kinders begin the year.

My Project

I am requesting books at levels A through E for a leveled classroom library that will impact my students for years to come. I work so hard to teach my kinders to read. However, if they don't have access to books they can read, I am fighting a losing battle. Reading is a skill that requires tons of practice. Not having books for kids to read is equivalent to telling someone they have to get good at basketball with a flat basketball -- or no basketball at all! I have bought some leveled books myself, but they are so expensive. I need help to supply the amount they need to become lifelong readers.

Your help will open up so many doors for my high poverty kiddos.

They will be able to explore worlds they have no access to now. You can help make the difference between kids who carry on the cycle of poverty OR who break out and take hold of their own destiny. We need your help -- for these kids!
