My Students: The kids love the "Jeopardy" aspect of using the clickers and immediately seeing how well they did on the quizzes. The "clickers" use 2 AA batteries and we have 24 clickers.

I want to try to improve balance and eye coordination by using the balance track as a walking path through our room.

My current class has 16 Kindergarten kids. We have 10 boys and 6 girls. As I administered the Developmental Spelling Assessment today, I was able to see that the kids are either easily performing at the level we want to see or are having difficulties quite often due to sensory issues or attention issues. We are a public school. We are a Reading First school. This is the first year as a "Leader in Me" school. We are also a high poverty school. We have been doing a book club study group on Eric Jensen's "Teaching with Poverty in Mind". One idea in the book is using activities that stimulate attention levels of the kids. They mention Dr. Lyelle Palmers "Smart" Stimulating Motor Activities through Readiness Training. We will not be able to send a teacher to their training but I would like to order their curriculum manual and use the balance track to complete some of their activities.

My Project: The balance track will enable us to initiate some of the activities in the Motor Activity manual mentioned above. I hope embedding these activities in and throughout the day will enable the kids who need help stimulating their attention levels and calming their sensory issues. Having the batteries will allow us to keep using the Response clickers as the batteries they came with last year are showing a low battery level. The students answer both phonics and math questions on the clickers and get an immediate grade that allows them to see how they are doing and the clickers also send the information to my computers.

I am hoping that integrating the motor activities and using interactive devices like the Smart Response clickers will get our Kindergarten kids off to a great start in education and life. hide»
