Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Currently, the Resource Room has two cumbersome computers which constantly require repairs and take up considerable space in a small classroom. Recently, we received one laptop computer from donors to achieve our goal to have technology support for struggling readers.

The students in my Resource Room are struggling in reading in the content areas.

In addition, they need support and remediation with math concepts. My students require additional resources to motivate them to succeed. The school is located in the heart of the city and is a Title One school. The population in my classroom is classified as Special Education with numerous disabilities. The students are in General Education classes and attend the Resource Room for support in academic areas.

My Project

Technology in the Resource Room will enable the students to be actively involved with research projects. Internet access is a necessity and not an enrichment activity. Currently, the students in the third and fourth grade are learning about China, Japan, Colonial America, Ellis Island, and New York City. The laptop will provide them with additional resources to stimulate their interest. Also, educational software will be installed on the laptop for differentiation of instruction and for students to be more independent. Having another laptop computer in the Resource Room will enable the students to be motivated for follow-up activities. It is a severe hardship to go to other classrooms or for me to daily transport my personal laptop to school on public transportation. The students will have "hands-on: experience using the computer as part of their daily instruction. Reluctant readers will enjoy the experience of using a laptop computer for the 21st century

Your help will ensure that my students receive a quality education and meet the performance standards expected within their grades.

These students are in the testing grades (grades 3-5) and require a variety of teaching strategies to meet their potential. All students have the capacity to learn and your support will enable this project to meet their needs. Having the laptop computer will enable the students to have "hands-on" experiences and be actively engaged in learning. Technology rocks!
