New Balls, No Pump or Rack

My students need a cart to hold our new balls and an air compressor to pump them up.

My Students

We have an entire box of new balls, but no way to pump them up. As well, we have a small laundry basket to hold the balls once we do get them ready for the playground.

My classroom is made up of 25 students ranging in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade.

The classroom is a Learning Center which is a combination of students who have less than 50% of their school day in a small group environment and more than 50% of their day (but less than 75%) in a small group environment. Their disabilities range from Learning Disabilities, Speech and Language Impairments, Other Health Impairments, Autism, Emotional Disturbances, and Visual Impairments. I love my students so much. They work so hard for me each day and I am trying to provide them a classroom that is stimulating academically so that they can take the information they are learning in my class and use it in their general education class and ultimately in life.

My Project

We were lucky enough to have donors fund 25 new playground balls for our class, but we have no way to pump them up. I was able to get a few of them pumped up, but the rest of the balls are sitting in a box waiting to be filled. I feel bad for my students because I know they would love to take them to the playground and play with their friends, but with no air compressor we are unable to do this. As well, we have a small green laundry basket that holds the balls we do have filled up. It barely holds 4 balls and would not be able to hold the 25 balls once they are filled. If we had an air compressor, I could easily pump up the balls and maintain the rest of the balls so that all children in my class have the opportunity to share the playground equipment on the playground. I also envision having all the balls on a rolling rack that I can set outside of my class and be used by not only my students, but those in the school encouraging positive social skills on the playground.

By having an air compressor and a rolling rack to hold the balls, I can take those balls out of the box and put them into the hands of the intended users thereby reinforcing turn taking, sharing, building new friendships, following the rules, and accepting defeat.
