My Students

I teach AP Chemistry to Inner City Youth. My students come from high-need backgrounds and are looking to further their education by taking challenging courses during their high school experience.

These students are so excited about DOING chemistry, they just want to jump right in and test their ideas in the lab setting.

Unfortunately,the school is on a tight budget and offers very few opportunities to carry out higher-level inquiry based laboratories that are required by the College Board.

My Project

Having the tools and chemicals that are necessary to run official AP-level laboratories will take away the handicap of having few supplies to run College level labs that are required for student success with the curriculum. My students need an efficient way to approach laboratory experiences, given the fact that there is limited time and resources supplied to them. Students can not afford to miss out on certain lab experiences, because they lack the materials to work with, when specific questions regarding lab work are found on the final exam. Finally, my students will feel even more motivated and proud to "do" chemistry given the proper equipment and chemicals found only in university labs.

You will make it possible for my students to feel validated and have faith in the world community.

They will be able to conduct College level laboratories, with "real" results that make sense,as if they were "real" AP Chemistry students and not forgotten inner city youth.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
