My Students

When it comes to speakers, which would you choose, dull and boring or exciting and mesmerizing? My students will select exciting and mesmerizing over and over again, as they learn to become expressive, fluent readers using Reader's Theater scripts. Fluency is fun in third grade!

My students are a group of eight year old children, who enjoy learning anything new and challenging.

They especially love reading to and entertaining audiences. Our school is in a suburban area and nearly 80% of the population receives free and reduced meals.

My Project

Imagine audiences jumping to their feet after a performance by our third graders, as the very floor beneath them shakes and rumbles from the thunderous applause! Just think, all this started with 20 reading phones that help students hear themselves clearly, and Reader's Theaters scripts. The materials for this project help students practice their reading fluency and gives them a purpose and an audience to motivate them.

Third graders still need practice in reading fluency.

Why not make it fun? Applauding their efforts through Reader's Theater performances motivates students to become expressive readers who will be encouraged to continue the practice throughout their lives.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
