This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

“Arithmetic is being able to count up to twenty without taking off your shoes." This quote summarizes the need for students to have access to flash cards that will help them build their numerical fluency without needing to count on their fingers.

I teach in a Title I school that has a thriving bilingual program.

My students are awesome third graders that love to learn. Most of my students come to school with a suitcase full of baggage from their home lives. I strive to create a loving environment for them to learn in.

My Project

As a nation, our mathematic achievements are constantly being compared to those of other countries. I want to begin to close the gaps in my students' mathematic abilities by providing numerical fluency. As a reading teacher, I strive to have students build their fluency to build their reading comprehension. As a math teacher, I want to do the same thing. Students will solve higher level problem solving skills as their numerical fluency improves.

These flash cards will help my students build their numerical fluency so they do not have to rely on counting on fingers and toes to compute simple mathematic operations.

I do not want to see my students struggle as adults with these basic skills.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
