My Students

Whoa! Before we plant, we had better know what kind of soil we have and what the plant we are giving a home really needs! That is why we need a soil tester.

Our students are shovel ready with their plans for a school garden.

Our kindergarten through fifth grade students have been busy throughout the winter planning, designing, and drawing what their garden will look like. They are enthusiastic about a project they plan to bring to life with the collaboration of families, community organizations, and our local Master Gardeners. First, they will find out the type of soils we have in our plot of land and what types of plants will be happy in that type of soil or what is needed to amend the soil to accommodate the plants.

My Project

With your help, students will be able to test the soil to first find out what types of soil are in their 45 by 80 foot plot of land and then decide what types of plants will thrive best. They may also choose to amend the soil after testing to accommodate their choices in plantings. By being (alert) to the dirt, we plan to have better success with plants and share that success through photos and updates.

We have an enclosed courtyard at our school that is in dire need of a great plan, and we have it!

The students have designed a wonderful outdoor space that will be a beacon to those wanting a quiet place to read, write, draw, and just observe nature. It will be a wonderful reprieve from day of under indoor fluorescent lighting.
