My Students

Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me. These words could not be further from the truth.

Hi, I'm the Guidance Counselor here at our school.

We are an elementary school that is located in a low income section of a large city. We have a diverse population. Our school is 60 years old and some of or students are 3rd generation students to this school. Others are new to the country, and still others are attending our school after attending 3 or 4 others in their short academic career.

My Project

These manuals will inspire students to help one another instead of being a bystander not knowing how to help. This school year, we have had 4 student suicides in our school district. Two of our neighboring school districts have also had student suicides. Some of these suicides have been blamed on bullying. These manuals will be given to students who have been nominated by their peers because they show good judgment, they are respected by peers, and they are someone other students can talk to and trust. These students will receive 6 weeks of training on Peer Mediation. Our goal is to teach them how to talk out problems and not to be a bully, bystander, or victim!

I would not be able to look myself in the mirror if one of my students committed suicide because they were victims of bullies, and I had not done everything in my power to help.

These books would provide one more way for students who need help to receive it. Please save a life, support a student!
