My Students

Have you ever been so excited about a project you didn't want to quit working on it? That's how my fifth graders feel.

Energetic, enthusiastic and motivated are a few adjectives that describe my 11 and 12-year-old students.

They love hands-on projects! What I enjoy so much about their age is that they will try their hardest to learn almost any new skill they are taught. Most of them are from poverty level homes with only one parent. These children don't get the opportunity to learn many new skills.

My Project

I was blessed to have a Donor's Choose grant funded earlier this school year. We received two sewing machines, sewing supplies and fabrics. I figured my love of sewing would rub off on my students but I hadn't realized to what extent that would happen. They love to sew! We are starting to quilt right now. Each student will complete a quilted pillow to remember their school year and wonderful donors like you. I start off by teaching my students to sew straight lines on paper, then we make pencil cases. Bean bags for a student-created game will follow. Math is an important part of every project we do. Two sewing machines aren't enough for all the bubbling enthusiasm in my classroom, that's why I'm asking for three more machines.

I am a firm believer in teaching children useful life skills at an early age, before peer pressure takes over.

My 5th grade boys love to sew as much as the girls! Your donation to this project will help me teach my students to enjoy sewing this year and for many more years to come. Thanks for your consideration!
