My Students

“Writing is an exploration. You start from nothing and learn as you go”. E. L. Doctorow. For my students, this could not be more true. I have seen a great change in them since they have started to explore different modes of writing and I want them to continue blossoming.

I work in a school for children that have autism.

My job is to provide academics, social skills and sensory training to a class of eight students that have been diagnosed with autism. My students range from ages six-ten and are very inquisitive and eager to learn new things.

My Project

Writing is very difficult for my students due to fine motor and processing issues. The more practice they receive individually and as a group will help them meet their goals. The Writing Skills Teaching Charts will allow me to review and teach different modes of writing before they go to centers. The Step by Step Writing Centers will allow my students to have more practice at both the writing and following the directions of how to write different works. The extra magazine pages, blank books and newspaper pages are for my students to continue with their authoring from our last project. They loved it. The sequence and write board will teach my students how to organize their thoughts from pictures, which can be difficult for them. The writer notebook and readers response notebook will allow my students to work independently on their writing with the use of checklists and written guidance. The journal box will allow for the order that my students crave.

With your support, my students will continue to gain valuable writing skills that they can use throughout their lives.
