Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Help my students become part of the 21st century technology boom. With lack of technology at home and in school many of my students are behind.

Our school is a Title I school located in an urban area a of a major southeastern city.

Eighty two percent of the student population is considered Economically Disadvantaged. Forty three percent of the students are English Language Learners. Most of these children come from homes where English is rarely or never spoken. Only 3 students out of 15 have a computer in their home. Out of those three only 2 have the Internet. The only technology these students see or can even touch and use is at school. This creates a challenge for these students to work on projects or even type on the computer.

My Project

The students will use the netbook for projects in literacy and in science. In literacy the students will use the netbook to record their personal moment stories and turn them into poems. They will type their poems using correct format and adding illustrations to complete a personal poetry book. Their poetry books will be presented at the writing celebration to parents, students and administrators. To complete this project students will be able to check the netbook out to take home with parent permission. Also during literacy time students will be able to login and visit a personal growth reading tracker. The tracker will show student's growth in their personal reading levels and fluency. During parent teacher conferences parents will also be able to look at the tracker to see their child's growth. In science students will create spreadsheets to track the incubation process of 12 chicken eggs to study life cycles. Students will track temperature, water use and embryo growth.

It is said that students in Elementary School now will have jobs that we haven't even heard of yet.

With technology changing so fast there are new upgrades everyday. My students are missing out everyday on technology that most people take for granted.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
