My Students

Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, and Violet - ahhhh... the colors of the rainbow. I want my students to have the opportunity to create their own rainbows.

I teach art to about 150 ninth through twelfth grade students at a very small rural high school in South Carolina.

Our supply budget matches our school size - small. I desperately want my students to experience using artist-quality colored pencils like Prismacolors so that they can see what a difference they make in their artwork. I think that using better materials gives students the feeling that their artwork is more important. They are all talented in one way or another and I know that using these materials will really make their work shine.

My Project

I plan on using these materials in many different lessons with my students. One of them being a still life they complete on a colored background paper like the canson mi-tentes paper I am asking for. The still life they draw will be made of objects that will best utilize the colored pencils - bones, cloth, feathers, shells, wood, plant material, flowers, etc. Students will learn to use a viewfinder and draw the still life accurately. We will do many color practice exercises and learn several blending techniques so that they can fully utilize what you give to them.
