My Students

Don't you hate to be crowded? My students love to sit close to me while I read to them, but they are squashed!

My students are first-graders, (24 wiggly, active boys and girls) who love to listen to books, or gather 'round to talk about what's important today!

They come from middle-to-low income families, where, in most cases, both parents are working outside the home.

My Project

One of the highlights of our day is carpet time, where we can talk about new puppies, going to Grandma's, or learning to ride a two-wheeler. After we talk a while, we settle in to hear a story, either a familiar one we already love, or a new one that will pique our interest.

It's hard to concentrate when everyone is squashed, knees are poking each other, and there is positively no wiggle room!

We would like to throw away our 6'x9' rug that we are using, and settle in for our next story on a nice 9'x12' that will also help us learn our alphabet and sounds with the letters and pictures on it!
