This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Collage! Collage! Collage! We are going crazy for collage.

My students are very talented young artists from a low income area of NY.

They strive at everything they do in school, since their surrounding area doesn't offer them many opportunities. They know that what they learn at school will help them become the individuals they need to be to survive when they are older. We are a K-5 school and I am the art teacher for 740 students this year.

My Project

My students need various collage papers and materials to create exciting projects inspired by great artists. My students are inspired by great artists like Vincent van Gogh, Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso and many others. The 2nd graders have found the art of Henri Matisse to inspire them the most. They admire the fact that even after he became ill, he still continued to create beautiful art, just in a different way. Matisse fell ill and was unable to paint, and therefore he started creating these magical collages. My students love to create collages of many different styles. They have explored Matisse's work and others. They want to continue the collage theme this year, but its difficult with budget cuts to continue to purchase the supplies needed.
