Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember what it was like the first time you read a book that you could not put down? Many of my students have not yet discovered this incredible feeling. They are more accustomed to playing video games and watching television than reading for enjoyment.

I have a very energetic class of third graders.

They are eager to learn and work very well together. It is a typical NY classroom with fairly high class sizes and resources becoming more and more limited with all of the budget cuts that are taking place in NY. Our school was built for 500 and we are now at 750. At times it is difficult to walk between the tables without bumping into something. .

My Project

A class set of Charlotte's Web will introduce my class to the world of classic literature. It will give them the opportunity to not only listen to it read aloud but to follow along and reread their favorite parts. We will be able to read and discuss this book together. It will give everyone a common interest and they will be able to learn about the true meaning of friendship. It will provide the opportunity for class and group discussion as well as personal reflections. We have spent so much of this year preparing for the state English Language Arts exam and we are ready for some downtime. What better way is there to relax than with a great book. I want them to learn that you do not need a television, cell phone, or text messages to relax. All you need is a good book. I think that Charlotte's Web is the perfect book to teach them this.

This book will teach them about friendship, determination, and selflessness. They will remember this story about two friends forever!!
