This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students need your help. They do not necessarily have the world's best organizational and study skills. They do not always know how to arrange notes so that they are easy to use at a later date.
My students have failed in the past.
Most of them are still trying though because their dreams require a high school diploma. They are aiming to graduate, to go to college or tech school, to do something more with themselves. My students are an eclectic mix of cultures and backgrounds. My students are wonderfully imperfect. Most of all, my students need your help.
My Project
In credit recovery, students are empowered to retrieve credits they are missing. To do this, they retake the class online. I require that they take detailed notes while working. To assist in this endeavor, I am asking for highlighters that I can allow my students to use in class, so that they can take good, thorough notes and organize them quickly and easily for future access. I will teach the students how to highlight while taking notes, and then use a different color to highlight again while studying.
I believe that the foundation of a good education is inside the brain of the learner, not the teacher.
If the student does not have the basic skills needed to study and learn, he or she cannot pick up on the most creative ideas the teacher has to give. In teaching my students good note-taking skills, I hope to give them the tools they need for graduation and beyond.
