Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Children think of the day when they'll find that special someone that they will fall in love with. Students need to believe in love and romance. These kids have lost the beauty of holding hands and going on an innocent date. Reading books like The Notebook and The Last Song will help kids find love.

I teach about 120 amazing seventh and eighth graders who want to read great stories.

Many of my students are immigrants, lower income, and as city as it gets. We have about 2000 kids in our school and they are greatly motivated to read. I took these kids on a trip to a bookstore and for many, it was their first time. They purchased books with their money and shared the passion for reading. I never witnessed something this beautiful in my teaching career until now. So many of my students are reading books like Dear John and The Last Song, I just want to have those books in my classroom library to fulfill their reading goals. There's so much great literature and these kids can't afford to buy it all. The kids are always working on understanding theme in works of literature. Nicholas Sparks really captivates his readers through love, pain, recovery, and beautiful settings that these kids have yet to witness.

My Project

I am requesting a group of books by Nicholas Sparks. His books are as good as his movies. Watching the movie The Notebook left me in tears. I thought I was a tough guy until I watched that movie. I want to share that book with my class and let the tears fly. The students will have a greater understanding of love and pain through these books. Nicholas Sparks is a great author and his books are constantly being made into movies. We are going to read The Notebook as a class, and then the kids will break into small reading groups and read other titles by Sparks.

This project is important because my students like to read but they have read all of my library books.

I have purchased books for them and they have devoured those. They are hungry reading monsters and they need more books! Every donor will bring strong literature that prepares these middle school children to read in high school. These books may also promote a greater respect for women and an understanding that emotions are very important.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
