My Students

Can you imagine growing up without a single book in your house? That is the case with many of the students at my school (58% economically disadvantaged). My goal is to get every single one of them reading at the grade level they are in and enjoying it!

My school is comprised of 64% minority students that come from low-income homes.

These kids try their best, but they don't always have the resources at home to help them succeed...that's where the Library comes in. I want to make sure that appealing literature is accessible to every student, no matter what their reading level!

My Project

I have requested audio versions of the books on the Texas Lone Star Reading List. This list is compiled of books that appeal to 6-8th grade students. The books are reviewed and chosen by librarians to encourage students in grades 6, 7, or 8 to explore a variety of current books for recreational reading. By offering these books in audio format, struggling readers can listen as they read along in the text.

My goal is to create lifelong learners and readers!

The best way to do this is to get these kids hooked on reading by offering books and formats that appeal to them. Audio books will make literature accessible to ALL students at our school!
