My Students

We are a bi-lingual 4th grade classroom with only 18 students (because of space constraints) in a 96% high poverty area. We have two offices at the back of our classroom which makes it very distracting as other students are constantly coming in and out of those offices.

Our teacher is very technology oriented and tries to use the Internet to keep us current with everything we are learning.

We are constantly going on sites to expand our knowledge. For example, when we were learning about volcanoes and vents and magma....we went on the National Geographic site to see a real volcano erupt. It was difficult for us to see because the computer screen was so small and we were too many. When the earthquake happened in Haiti we were very interested what Haiti was like before and after. Our school is doing a fundraiser to raise money for the people in Haiti. Unfortunately we were able to crowd around Mrs. D's desk to get a glimpse of what we were interested in. Having a 27 inch monitor would allow us to sit in our desks and be able to see clearly the sites we are interested in seeing. Students benefit greatly from the visual stimulation will be able to view materials presented to them and use them as a catalyst for improving their basic academic skills.

My Project

Your help will ensure that our bi-lingual students will have the visual stimuli they need to gather information about subjects that they are interested in. In addition, they will be able to remain seated as view what is on the monitor as they work to improve their basic academic skills and are able to bring to life abstract concepts in their text books. This assists students to move from concrete concepts to the abstract by providing real life experience via the Internet and visual aid. It makes their learning experience real and exciting in a practical sense. It inspires them to

They will be provided with the life long skill of using the Internet as a priceless resource and research tool.
