My Students

Kindergarten students have a lot of energy, and transitioning to independent reading time is not an easy task. With the limited space in our classroom, having individual chairback buddies would cut down on classroom traffic and make our transition to independent reading smoother.

My students are very diverse.

We have several different cultural and economic backgrounds and everyone in our class is a strong member of our classroom community. We have been working hard since the beginning of the year to create an environment that is positive and caring for each student and we have achieved it. The students are all aware of our rituals and routines and are very respectful of each other and our supplies.

My Project

These chairback buddies will really help with our transition from guided reading or phonics into independent reading. Each student is given 'just right books' that are at their independent reading level. Right now I am in charge of distributing and collecting the books for each student and keeping them organized because we do not have the space for each student to store an individual book bin. If we had our chairback buddies, I could put each student's 'just right books' in the back of their chairs and the students would be able to get to independent reading more quickly and efficiently. It would also instill respect and responsibility since the students would be in charge of taking care of and organizing their own books.

This supply would really make a difference in my classroom.

My students would learn to treat more supplies with respect and responsibility and it would also allow for a smoother transition in the classroom. It would allow students to get to their reading quickly which would allow for more time in other important academic areas.
