Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Wouldn't it be wonderful to grow the healthy fruits and vegetables we teach our children to eat and at the same time learn about gardening and soil? This greenhouse and additional resources will help us do just that!

Our school is a K-5 rural school in North Carolina.

Our class has a diverse population of learners. We have a high ELL population as well as many students with low socio-economic status. These students thrive on any hands-on activity and love being able to see first hand how things work. They especially enjoy learning about their different cultures and the world around them.

My Project

Our current nutrition unit is very bland! With the help of a greenhouse and other resources, our students will be able to grow the healthy fruits and vegetables we have been learning about. We will be able to harvest these and create healthy snacks and meals to reinforce the skills we learned in our unit. Along the way, we will also be able to teach students how to plant and care for the garden.

Nutrition is a science unit all students can relate to everyday.

This project will help the students make healthy choices that will impact the rest of their lives. It will also make the unit more hands on and meaningful to our class.
