My Students

High school chemistry is a prerequisite to enrollment in a four year college program. I teach chemistry and honors chemistry to 10th, 11th, & 12th grade students that are enrolled in a high school located in a high-need, multicultural community.

I teach three sections of high school chemistry.

Two of the sections are Honors classes and the third is a standard chemistry class. The Honors classes represent sophomore and junior high school students. The regular class consists mainly of juniors and seniors. The Honors classes are challenged more in the curriculum. Our high school is located in a designated high need, multicultural community. Interactive classroom activities are essential in all aspects of learning!

My Project

Chemistry requires students to understand the laws applying to gases. The four properties of gases that can interrelate are Volume, Pressure, Temperature, and the Amount of gas. The laws that describe the properties of gases relate the four properties. The items I am requesting clearly demonstrate critical gas law principles that are readily observable and easily understood by students. The Boyle's Law apparatus demonstrates the relationship of pressure and volume, the collapsible cans demonstrate Charles' Law, the Drinking Bird demonstrates the relationship between pressure and temperature, and the Ideal Gas Law poster ties all of the laws together into the Ideal Gas law which relates all four properties!

If students can understand the laws regulating gases through visual representations provided by the tools requested in this project their understanding of all gas laws will be greatly enhanced.
