My Students

Our classroom is in great need of a new, quality CD player. We listen to music all the time and our CD player no longer works. Many of our CD's no longer work because they have been used so much!

We are a first grade classroom in a small, southern Iowa town.

Our poverty rate is over 50%. I do everything I can to meet all students' needs through many different activities. Music is one of the students' favorite ways to learn. We have music for phonics, math, science and social studies. We have music we listen to when we write, do art projects and dance just for fun! We also study the continents and oceans. We have music that is from each continent (except Antarctica!) We are currently enjoying Didgeridoo music from the Aboriginals in Australia.

My Project

Having a new, quality CD player and new CD's will allow us to continue learning through music and movement. It will allow me to continue to introduce my students, who live in small town Iowa and rarely, if ever travel, to the world through music. They can also continue to learn math concepts, phonics, science and social studies as well as dance to have fun and be silly!

Many students learn best through music and I very much want to continue to teach concepts through song and dance! Not only will students be learning first grade concepts, but they will be exposed to a wide variety of music from different cultures!
