My Students

"Do we get to dissect anything this year?" This is a familiar statement every year from my 7th graders. Small budgets might prevent that from becoming a possibility next year. I want to ensure that my students next year will have the same opportunity I have been able to provide for the past six.

My students love school.

They only attend 4 days a week. They ski, snowboard, ride horses, and are very family oriented. They live in a very rural area and don't have as many opportunities to do things as city kids might. They love having the opportunity to participate in the dissection unit I teach every year. They are always very interested in what animals look like inside. When they reflect on the year, dissections usually rank as one of the most remembered experiences.

My Project

The materials you are supporting will provide me with another year of successful animal dissections while my students study the difference between invertebrates and vertebrates. We discuss adaptations of animals, environments, and many other aspects of ecology. Students forever remember the time they were able to look inside of an animal, if not more than to just say, "I cut open a starfish."

Funding this project will mean my students will have the same opportunity I have been able to provide for my students the past six years.

Like many schools this year, budget cuts are a reality and I want to ensure that my students learning doesn't suffer as a result of these financial hardships. This project will not only supply the animal specimens for next years class, but guides which can be used by future classes.
