My Students

There is nothing better than the smell of fresh popped popcorn as you walk into the gym at a basketball game...but nothing worse than burned popcorn. That is the case at our gym. Our popper is old and burns the popcorn. We simply need a new popcorn machine.

Our school is a rural school in southwest Missouri.

District wide, we have around 800 students. We have a high level of poverty throughout our district. We have many students that come from farms, beef or dairy, and many have responsibilities there outside of school. Our school has been "Accredited with Distinction" for the past seven years and we pride ourselves in high expectations for student behavior, character, and academic performance. Our students have a variety of extra-curricular activities to choose from: girls and boys basketball, track, softball, baseball, band (and we rock!), choir, FFA, FBLA, FCCLA, NHS, SADD, Student Council, Science Fair, and on and on. We have a great school and a great community, and most of all, the BEST students!

My Project

The concession stand is usually given to the senior class to run at basketball games. The seniors use the money to help pay for their senior trip. I was the junior sponsor last year and the senior sponsor this year, and because the previous senior class didn't want the concession stand, I've ran it for the last two years. We have an arrangement with a local bank that has helped us make more money. We keep track of the bags of popcorn we give out, and the bank reimburses us for each bag. Our popcorn is FREE to patrons. But this greatly increases demand. Our very old machine makes it extremely difficult to keep up with that demand. Since the concession stand rotates and our school is on a tight budget, no one at school can afford a new machine. Although the popcorn machine is used primarily for junior high and high school basketball games, the elementary and community uses it for special events. A donation would help our entire school, all students, for many years.

Our local economy is suffering just like our nation.

There aren't many people who will be able to help us out with such a large donation. Our school would appreciate the generosity of a new popcorn machine tremendously. This is not for a classroom, but for a community, and many students will benefit from the money generated by a new machine. Thank you so much for considering us. We appreciate your time!
