My Students

Our students do not get the opportunity to explore private music lessons or attend formal musical concerts or performance. The computer stations in our room allow the students to explore their musical interests.

We are a public school of 400 students grades k-5.

We are 50% government assistant families. We offer afterschool programs in music and drama that are facilitated by volunteer teachers. Our student show a great interest in the arts, but do not have funds at home to expand that interest by taking private lessons. Our computer time gives our students that musical stretch that many of them want but do not get anywhere else.

My Project

The program I am requesting is a lab pack which will allow my students to continue the Groovy music series. This level is for the 4th and 5th graders and allows them to learn more complex concepts, such as blues in a futuristic city them. The program keeps it fun while giving the student the building blocks they need to create music forms on their own.

Our students so desire a way to explore and experience music.

Out of the 120 students that this program would be used with each year, 80 of them have participated in our choral and music drama programs for the past 5 years. These computer programs give the student the opportunity to explore and create their own musical interests. Who knows where the next composer might come from? Or, who missed out because they did not have the tools or opportunity to explore and experiment at an early age.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
