" I would really love to get a few outside play cars for my deaf and hard of hearing preschool class. All of the cars we have are getting old and broken. We have up to 18 preschoolers who use the cars so they do get a lot of wear and tear. The children just love to go to recess and pick out a car to drive around in.
Play is such an essential part of any preschool program and for deaf preschoolers this is even more important. Deaf preschoolers are visual learners. We use a lot of hands on objects to help them learn the names/signs of things and to give them the language to describe the objects. The ride on cars I am hoping to get would fit right into our curriculum and language learning. We do a unit on transportation every year and have a parade in all our cars. We have the kids talk about the type of vehicles, the colors, shapes, sizes, how they move: fast or slow, what people use them for. I think you get the picture. Everything - just everything - is a language experience with these children. The things we could do with these cars, let alone just race around in them and have fun, are endless. Thank you for your support.
