My Students

Safety is an important issue in chemistry lab. Often there are labs where heated substances need to be stirred. Although my students are very careful in lab, there is always the risk of spilling hot chemicals during those labs when stirring is required.

My students are highly motivated juniors and seniors preparing for graduation and college.

Many of them are taking their second chemistry course with me to be even better prepared for college. We are in a small school district in coastal South Carolina. I want these students to be as well-prepared for college as their peers who attend large schools with bigger budgets.

My Project

My students will be able to safely carry out lab experiments with these hotplate stirrers because the spill-resistant design channels fluids away from internal components and protects the students. The built-in heat sensors will shut down the units if the temperature exceeds safety regulations. The instruments are also easy to use, so that students do not have to worry if they are causing errors in their experiments.

By helping to fund this proposal, you will be contributing to my goal of preparing my students to be competitive in college.

The labs you help them perform safely will allow them to be competitive as they enter college. Learning through lab experiences is vital in chemistry! Your help may create a future chemist!
