My Students

My students are lacking many of the basic experiences many take for granted. Today, we talked about the history of St. Patrick's Day and how it can be celebrated with a parade. Only 3 of my 19 students had ever seen a parade. I checked out 1 of my schools 3 projectors and we watched one on youtube.

I teach at a Title I school of about 600 students where 40% of our students speak English as a second language (ESL) and 55% are African American.

I can constantly exposing my second graders to new things. Why today we tasted a cactus plant! Because 57% of my class is ESL, using pictures is essential for them to make connections to their native language and to the new skill.

My Project

My school district has a license for us to use United Streaming video clips, animated math lessons, and other resources to enhance our lessons but our hardware is limited. Purchasing this projector would turn one computer into 19. I have also found vocabulary games that require a projector. This would motivate my students to practice their vocabulary thus improving their comprehension in reading.

But it wouldn't stop there.

My grade level does team planning so these same lessons would reach our other 80 second graders. Please help me share the wonderful things that are in our world with my students.
