Music Keeps Us Moving and Motivated

My Students

Want to grab someone's attention? Want to be sure they remember? Use music! From commercial jingles to a romantic serenade, music is powerful. It is also a mighty teaching tool, especially for my young learners. We use music several times a day!

Our pre-kindergarten class has 20 students.

We are an all day program in a Title I public primary school. Seventeen of the 20 children qualify as economically disadvantaged. Our class is energetic and enthusiastic about school. They love to sing and dance and learn!

My Project

We have music and movement several times a day. The activity boosts their brain power by sending blood pumping throughout their bodies. Music is also such a great vehicle for learning. We are learning to count, to rhyme, and to play with words. The "silly" songs we sing help us get ready to read and keep us excited about school and learning. Unfortunately, we loose a lot of time switching out CDs to find various songs. It is also very disappointing when we turn to our favorite track and find it has been scratched. We would love an iPod dock. If we can store our CD library digitally on an iPod that was recently donated, then we wouldn't loose any more music to scratches. Being able to switch from album to album without the time of changing out CDs, would save time and the children's attention.

Providing us with an iPod dock and some new CDs will keep these little bodies and minds moving.

Music is so motivating. Please help us to improve our instruction time and resources.
