My Students

One of the greatest challenges I face is motivating every student to want to learn. I must set the tone for a productive school day by having students walk into a fun learning environment each morning. What a challenge!

Some of my students are self-motivated, but others do not possess a natural appreciation for learning.

Moreover, they do not see a connection between 4th grade literacy and the real-world. County-mandated workbooks and textbooks dominate the day. As you can imagine, they only do so much to inspire a love of literacy. I believe my students need supplemental materials to inspire them to work on spelling and learn the meanings of obscure words. They need exposure to fascinating books that capture their attention and arouse their innate curiosity.

My Project

Literacy stations are the answer! They're both fun and educational, but I need materials to create them. The materials I have selected will reach students of every ability level. The stations would allow students to work on spelling, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and content area research activities each morning. Activities include partner games, real-world writing, puzzles, and more. Over time this consistent, leveled practice will make a world of difference in the way my students make meaning and communicate.

Please help me give my students the opportunity to learn literacy in a fun way that makes them want to come to school early just so they can have a few extra minutes with their new favorite book or grammar game.
