My Students: “For many people, one of the most frustrating aspects of life is not being able to understand other people's behavior.” Understanding others and then responding appropriately to them is one of the challenges my students face on a daily basis.

I work in a school for children that have autism. My job is to provide academics, social skills and sensory training to a class of 8 students that have been diagnosed with autism. My students range from ages 6-10 and are very inquisitive and eager to learn new things.

My Project: In order to help my students, they will need hands on multi-sensory tools. One tool is the behavior program It's Up to Me: Self Monitoring Behavior Binder. This will give them the ability to learn how to judge right and wrong responses throughout the day. Another tool is Character Education Bingo and a Character Education Chart. They will be able to be exposed to different situations through these tools and be able to visually see what they are and how they affect others. The Bully Free classroom kit and the Bullies, Victims and Bystanders game will allow my students to see how it feels to play a different part in bullying. They will learn to walk in other peoples shoes and gain insight into other peoples feelings. The Consequences and Social Skills games would give more practice in different scenarios and also teach them that what they do may have a good or bad affect on others.

Your support will help my students overcome one of the most challenging parts of their lives everyday. It will give them exposure to many different types of situations and possible reactions to those situations. You will also be helping them take responsibility for their own actions and help them change their behavior. hide»

My students need 8 social development materials, including a self monitoring behavior system, social skills board games that teach self esteem and manners, Character education bingo and character education chart. details»
