My Students

It's raining cats and dogs and we all have to stay inside. What do we do now? In my classroom, sit around, talk, and draw on scratch paper, or play games with missing pieces. We are bored!

I teach in an underprivileged school that has 100% free breakfast and lunch.

I teach a group of 32 4th and 5th graders that battle a variety of situations to get to school and be productive each day. They are a restless group that definitely needs time to run around and expend their energy. This isn't always possible when we have to stay in the classroom for morning and lunch recess due to rain. I want to make that time more productive and fun.

My Project

My students work very hard during our time together, and when we have to stay inside they sometimes wander around looking for something to do. I am requesting games like Monopoly Jr., which will help them count money and understand debts and credits. Also, I am requesting Guess Who?, which teaches the kids to ask questions and make relevant choices about the answers to their questions. I am also requesting Scrabble Jr., which will help them play with words. My students will also learn how to treat materials and have responsibility for cleaning up the parts and games, so that other people can play the games too.

Your donation to rainy day recess games will help my class be more tranquil during those days we have to stay inside.

It will give my students an opportunity to engage in a meaningful way and to continue learning while at recess. Additionally, I am going to stress the responsibility of maintaining the games and parts, so I will be demanding that they have respect and responsibility for the games that we receive.
