Fall For Reading!

My students need a variety of books in our classroom library that are both culturally relevant and appropriate for their reading abilities.

Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

When you find a good book it is like finding a good friend. Reading can take you around the world and let you experience things through the eyes of others. Being exposed to a variety of stories also helps you grow as a writer. My students are learning to love reading and I want to help.

Walking into my classroom you will find a diverse mix of students.

I teach in Missouri, working with mostly African American and Hispanic students. Our school is in a very low socioeconomic area and the children that I teach do not always have the opportunities that others might. I love every minute of my job; showing these wonderful children a world of possibilities by sharing the stories and experiences of cultures that are all around them.

My Project

I am requesting a variety of books that would help my students continue their love of reading. I want them to see that there are stories of people that they can relate to and use this to help them grow as readers and writers. So often in classroom libraries you find very little literature that is culturally relevant. When you are reading stories to your children and the characters do not look like them or have experiences that are like theirs, it is hard to build that excitement and interest that carries over into their own lives.

Your donation can help bring these relevant experiences to my children.

You can help build a library full of great books that my students will love reading. The African proverb "It takes a whole village to raise a child" is so true, and together we can help the children in this community thrive.
