My Students

Do you remember doing activities in science class? My students love to do activities, but we do not have enough of some applies, like balances. So the few activities we do in class that require balances take forever. We either have to borrow the two that another teacher has or use the triple beam balances.

My students are 7th and 8th graders in Mid Missouri.

We are a very rural school with very limited sources of revenue for our students. Our budget is being cut more everyday as our state and school district both try to balance their budgets. At the same time we are trying to raise our standardized test scores which stress the scientific method.

My Project

With new balances, we will be able to do many more activities and investigate more about things in their everyday life such as: speed, acceleration, weight, density and chemical properties. We will also be able to do other hands-on things that will help to improve our standardized test scores.

Balances are a basic equipment need for science.

So many things can be learned when we see and weigh items. The addition of more scales will allow those activities to go faster so that more activities can be done in the same amount of time.
