My Students

In today's society, students are expected to be more technologically advanced than ever before. I want my students to come out of my classroom with new knowledge of many computer applications. My students are starting to use programs such as Power Point and Photo Story to complete projects.

I currently have 26 fourth graders.

We are in a middle class area but with the current budget cuts to education in Arizona, it is hard to purchase new technology for individual classrooms. New and better technology goes to the high schools first because those students are getting ready to enter the "real world."

My Project

My students are very knowledgeable in navigating the Internet to find resources and information for various projects. Currently we are working on a project about the Iditarod (Alaskan dog sled races). In this project, my students are working in groups to create segments for a news program about the Iditarod. I would love to see them enhance this project by using a digital camera to take their own pictures depicting the Iditarod or scan items they need to create Photo Stories for the news program or a culminating activity for this project.

This project is very important to my class because it is something I have done for the last three years.

I incorporate all of the subjects in this project, and my students learn about something they might have never learned about before. I have become known in the school for this project, and past students still talk about how much they learned and how much fun they had working on this.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
