My Students

The limited resources in our school often go to classrooms that face state testing. Our Latin students have discovered that their lessons in other classes are more interesting due to the use of technology. We will soon get an LCD projector but need a wireless tablet to use it most effectively.

Our community is rural and in a high-need district.

Local unemployment rates have been near record levels, and a state budget crisis has caused big cuts in educational spending. Many students have parents who have not completed high school. Our school is about 50% African-American.

My Project

We will soon be receiving an LCD projector through Donors Choose. This will allow my students to see content projected from my computer onto a screen. But this is passive learning. With a wireless tablet students will be able to interact with the content on the screen. They will be able to make their own presentations, play online learning games, and write their own content on the board from their seats. These techniques appeal to a digital generation.

The study of Latin improves students' grammar and vocabulary.

While learning this language, students also learn how to break down English words into their components so they can figure out, and then better remember, what words mean. Latin can help close the achievement gap while students acquire skills needed for success in college, especially in fields like medicine and law. By donating this wireless tablet you are helping my Latin students achieve their dreams of career and college success.
