My Students

Remember getting hooked on the Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew, Judy Blume, or the Beverly Cleary books? My students are finding wonderful books to read and then they do not want to stop! However, I often do not have the books that they want to read next!

I have a classroom full of readers!

What a blessing! We really enjoy our reading time first thing in the morning and whenever we get a chance to read throughout the day! My class is a thoughtful community of learners who exhibit excellent character every day. I want to do everything I can to nurture their excitement for reading and I do not want to let not having books for them get in their way!

My Project

The love of reading has taken root and now I need the books to help them grow as readers! Most of my students are hooked on book series such as A Series of Unfortunate Events, C.S. Lewis books, and Mercy Watson books. I only have books 1-5 of the Unfortunate Events Series (there are 13 books total), one of the C.S. Lewis books and none of the Mercy Watson books. It is very discouraging when they finish one of these books and ask me if I have the next one and I have to tell them no. I buy books for my class, but it gets expensive and I look at the public library, but often they do not have the book that my students need next if they are reading a series. I know if I have these books available for them in my classroom, they will continue to be excited about reading and their reading adventure will continue on to the next grade.

It is really tough to tell a student that I do not have a book that they are excited about reading!

I feel very fortunate that my students love to read and I do not want to stifle that love for reading because I do not have the books for them. We are serious about series so please help us keep reading the books that we love!
