This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Where are we? That is a question my students often ask when talking about the world around them. Living in a small rural community seems to remove them from the world they live in.

My students are second graders who for the most part have never left the area in which they were born.

They attend a very rural small community school with a very low socio-economic base. The students come from working class families many of which are unemployed at this time. They are and mixture of cultures but all have a desire to learn about the world around them.

My Project

If my class were to receive a world/USA map, the students would be able to see where they are located compared the the rest of the world. They will be able to discover how far away some places are while others are quite close. It will give them a better understanding of the world around them and what is available to them. With the map, we will be able to measure distances and times to the various parts of the world. We will also be able to pinpoint where in the world current events are taking place and how these events may affect their lives now and in the future.

By getting a world/USA map, my students will be able to know where they are located.

They will see how big the world really is but at the same time be able to understand how small the world has become. It will show my students how they can make a difference even in our small rural community that may impact the entire world
